Borrowing Services

Full-time and part-time students

Your student photo ID card serves as your library card. Each academic year, students must present a current student identification card to register for library privileges. Returning students must have a valid stamp on their card. Cards can be obtained or stamped at the Student Services Building.

Procedures may vary for Distance Education students.  Please refer to Distance Education Services.

Faculty and staff

Your staff photo ID card serves as your library card. Staff members must present a current staff identification card for borrowing privileges. Contract staff must renew their membership annually and cards can be obtained or stamped at the Student Services Building.

Retired staff - free lifetime membership upon presentation of a valid photo staff retired ID card (available at the Student Services Building) or other proof of retired staff status. This card does not entitle the holder to remote access to electronic databases or to Interlibrary Loan or Reciprocal Borrower services.

High school students

Free annual library membership upon presentation of a school ID, or other proof of status. This membership allows the cardholder to borrow material from the circulating collection. This card does not entitle the holder to borrow high-demand material, remote access to electronic databases or to Interlibrary Loan or Reciprocal Borrowing services.

Research Assistants

Faculty can request library privileges for staff hired as a Research Assistant with the expectation that the requesting faculty member will take responsibility for all charges incurred on the Research Assistant's card. To obtain privileges, the faculty member is required to complete an Application for a Research Assistant Card form and the Research Assistant will be contacted once privileges have been issued.

Alumni

Free lifetime library membership upon presentation of a valid Durham College Alumni card (available through the Alumni Office) or other proof of alumni status. This card does not entitle the holder to remote access to electronic databases or to Interlibrary Loan or Reciprocal Borrower services.

Students, faculty and staff from other Ontario colleges

Free library membership for the current academic year upon presentation of a valid photo ID and proof of current enrollment. This card does not entitle the holder to remote access to electronic databases or to Interlibrary Loan services.

Community borrowers (general public)

Free annual library membership upon presentation of a valid photo ID. This membership allows the cardholder to borrow material from the circulating collection. This card does not entitle the holder to borrow high-demand material, remote access to electronic databases or to Interlibrary Loan or Reciprocal Borrowing services. The cardholder is responsible for all items borrowed on the card and the card is not transferable.
